Wow what a first day! It would be my luck that I get to the airport and the first thing they tell me is that my flight is cancelled and they didn't bother to let me know that I had been put on a different one. Lucky they were at almost the same time.
After a sleepless nine-hour flight, I arrived in London. I love London. I wish I could've spent more time there. Anyway, after walking around wondering where my gate was in this ginormous airport, I found out that we didn't have a flight crew. There was apparently a huge snowstorm in London the day before - this is why my first flight was cancelled. Planes were in places they shouldn't and so were their flight crews. So after a two-hour delay, we were finally airborn for Barcelona. But going back to London, as I flew in and out, I couldn't help but think that there should be way more snow on the ground than what there was! While waiting for my second flight, I was watching the London news and this snowstorm closed over 5000 schools and affected transit all across the UK. I would've expected a lot more than the snow covered grass that I saw, but hey, maybe I think like that because I'm Canadian! After all, the news said that the temperature got to be -10! Can you imagine! As Albertan's, I'm sure we'd all take -10 temperatures all winter long instead of the -30's that we sometimes get!
After arriving in Barcelona, the madness started. After getting bags, I had to navigate the trains. I can already tell you they aren't my favourite part! As lost as I was, if I didn't have some directions from friends, I could've easily ended up at the complete opposite side of Barcelona that I needed to be! And very few people spoke English to ask for help. Oh well though! I made it safe and sound.
A friend of a friend, Marijana, showed me a little bit of the University before we called it a night. It looks nice but it is dark out so I will be able to say more when I have seen it in the daylight.
Tomorrow I start my exploring... if the jet lag doesn't kill me first! But I feel like I'll be fine right now.
Until next time...
